PHILOSOPHY

STUDENT-CENTERED

In my classroom, you will find routines and procedures that value student voice, such as morning meeting circle and our class rules system. When students feel rooted in the community and supported and cared for, they can pursue both academic and socioemotional goals with purpose.

EQUITABLE

Every child walks into my classroom each day with different needs. Students face different challenges and barriers that impact their social, emotional, and academic outcomes. It is important for me to meet students where they are and provide supports that will ensure access to our goals.

COLLABORATIVE

Building a learning community with my students helps us to reflect on our growth as we learn together. Projects make the opportunity for collaborative work in which students develop communication, problem-solving, and task management skills to help develop as proficient scholars and citizens.

AUTHENTIC

I strive to make my classroom a place where students take ownership over authentic learning experiences that are meaningful to them.  Students care deeply about solving problems in their community and making a difference through their actions.

RESPONSIVE

Academic achievement and socioemotional learning are deeply connected. We work as a classroom to recognize and positively reinforce behaviors and use restorative practices when students need support. It is my goal that every student feels safe, belonging, and ownership in our learning community.

INTERDISCIPLINARY

I believe teaching and learning should not be done in isolation. I prefer to work closely with my teaching team to design interdisciplinary projects are structured around curriculum standards that tie in student inquiry and meaningful work.
